A love letter

Joe’s blog post really got me thinking.

It’s hard to believe I’ve been at EMRL for almost three years. Three years ago, I was a newbie to Sacramento and very unhappy at my current job. EMRL, specifically Stephen and Floyd, saved me when they decided to hire me. I never could have imagined working at a place like this. Sure, I could have imagined working as an Account Manager somewhere, but not at a place like EMRL. Let me explain.

The cat

First of all, there’s Muse, the office cat. Muse is Floyd’s side kick, but from time to time she’ll say hello to others in the office, come to meetings, or scratch on the wooden legs of my desk.

Muse

However, most the time you’ll find her laying across Floyd’s desk or in his lap, something she would never dream of doing with anyone else in the office.

The music

Then there’s the music. I bet your office doesn’t have a drum kit or a Creative Director randomly building a theremin in the back room.

I bet your office doesn’t have a drum kit or a Creative Director randomly building a theremin in the back room.

Along with the instruments, we have musicians! Adam plays the saxophone, Joe, Stephen, and Corey the drums, and Floyd the bass (among other things, hence the theremin). Honorable mention goes to Ashley; she’s been practicing the bass and I hear she used to play a mean clarinet. Whitney, if you’re reading this, we need to get you on the guitar. If you’re here before 9am, sometimes you’ll hear Joe and Floyd having an early morning jam session. Also, if you haven’t checked it out yet, we even have an EMRL radio station.

The people and the lessons

When it comes down it, and without sounding too sappy, it’s all about the people that makes working here so enjoyable. We truly make a good team. Constantly learning new things helps too. 3 years ago I didn’t know the difference between CMYK, PMS, and RGB, or what a JPEG was used for vs a PDF, not to mention what the heck a vector files was. Fast Forward to now and I can easily place client orders with our printer, I can get myself around WordPress, manage Google AdWords, and even put together a simple eblast.

In summary, this place is dope.

I love my coworkers.

I love the work.

I love my job.

Thanks, EMRL.
