Let’s Drown 2008 In Booze
You may or may not already know about Sacramento’s big ball drop thingie happening tonight. Although they’re dropping a giant light-up ball, I thought it would be cooler if we dropped a cow (this is Sacramento after all) but I don’t think that would have made it past the commitee.
The event is happening in the intersection of 10th and K Streets (exactly where EMRL is located).
What this means is, while hordes of people are stuck down on the street paying for drinks, freezing, and waiting in line for the restroom, we’ll be upstairs making obscure cocktails and having pleasant conversation where it’s warm!
Feel free to stop by anytime from 9 until god knows when.
If we don’t see you, have a happy new year!

Merry Xmass
Yesterday I heard this nutcake guy outside our shop yelling at the world. He was walking out in traffic, and clearly felt like he had something important to say. Most of it sounded like blah blahblah blahblah blah until I heard him say this:
“Every day spent above ground is a good day!”
A totally weird thing to say, and a totally weird thing for me to pick out of his rant to hear. Maybe he felt bad for the guys under the street working on our sewers, or maybe he just watched THX-1138 and was afraid for our underground-dwelling dystopian future, I dunno.
Anyhow, tippin’ a 40 for xmass. Have a swell day.

Faintly Macabre
I was thinking of how cool The Phantom Tollbooth is. I think its one of my favorite books ever, certainly was my favorite when I was 12 or whatever. If a book has a character in it named Faintly Macabre, the not-so-wicked Which how can it not be cool? I remember Aunt Faintly getting all protective regarding letters and words and hoarding them for herself – which of course made it hard for people in the Kingdom of Dictionopolis to be able to comunicate effectively. King Azaz the Unabridged threw her in jail, and she deserved it of course.
I think I’ll try and find my copy – next to Atlas Shrugged, The Phantom Tollboth is like the coolest book ever.

Film Came Back
We got our film back from our last shoot. Looks pretty good considering the inclement weather, kind of gritty. We had it transferred to 1080p , exciting as this will be our first spot finished in HD. About time, considering old tv dies in February. Here’s a couple stills from the raw footage.

Fairy!
I have an 8 year old niece (Liza), who is really into fairies right now. Completely understandable. I was into fairies at that age, too. I believed they existed. I grew up on the north coast, and whenever my sister and I saw a mushroom ring, we just KNEW that fairies were afoot. There is just something magical and special about a fairy.
Apparently there’s a new Disney movie out right now called Tinker Bell, starring Tink and her “fairy friends.” I personally haven’t seen it, but Liza’s crazy about it; and has decided to collect the fairy dolls. I sure as heck hope she’s not reading this because I’m about to spill some beans.
For Christmas, I bought her a couple of Tinker Bell’s friends (Iridessa and Rosetta). But I found the coolest thing: a nifty little jar of fairy dust on Etsy (probably the coolest website since Wikipedia). It’s the kind of thing I would have loved as an 8 year old girl…and I can’t wait to see her face on Christmas morning. Hooray!

Uphill, Both Ways
Last Saturday we shot our television spot for Californians for Patient Care. It was freezing and foggy. It started raining frogs and we were attacked by zombies. Despite these issues, I think we got some good footage and it should cut together into a neat PSA.

Erica shot some behind the scenes video, and while it’s probably the most boring 6 minutes ever – for anyone that wasn’t on the shoot at least – I figured we’d post it anyhow. Watch it at your own risk. |

Oh here’s a few still images as well. We didn’t get any shots of the zombies, unfortunately, but maybe next time. Here’s a few photos of the shoot, shot by Elgen Wood.
