9.2.09 Ten Dollars will get you Fifty Cents

In the United States during the 19th Century, it was quite popular to use lots of big, fanciful, made-up Jabberwocky kind of words.  Fun frou-frou words like sockdolager, hornswoggle, & snollygoster.  Skedaddle & shindig too.  I think this kind of language might have inspired the term “10 Dollar Word” but that’s just a guess.

8.15.09 Despotism

I found this 1946 classroom film while cleaning out my hardrives. It’s kind of long, but very interesting (especially the re-enactments with look-a-like faux-Nazis. The on-screen narrator’s suit has incredible lapels too.
